Land We Love (2015-2019).

When thinking of Jamaica, what surfaces are memories of the giant ackee trees on my grandparents' land, the sticky temperatures that sometimes seemed unbearable, the houses that were rich in vibrant colours, and the familiar faces that lived inside them. I remember the excitement of picking ripe ackees from the tree, the cautionary tales about the poisonous seeds, and the delicious meals that followed. The ackee tree, a native Jamaican plant, is known for its vibrant red fruit and is a symbol of the island's natural beauty.

This photo series is a living, breathing collection of portraits captured around the island of Jamaica. What is documented are the faces of people from the parishes of Saint Elizabeth, Hanover, and my mother's parish of Manchester. The representation of Jamaicans through community, culture, lifestyle, and environment from my perspective as a first-generation Jamaican, born outside of their parents' country of birth. The series was also inspired by my desire to reconnect with my roots and share the beauty of Jamaican culture with the world.
